Position Summary

SUNY Geneseo’s Milne Library seeks an enthusiastic, service-oriented individual to serve as Head of Access Services who will participate in service planning and implementation across a collaborative and cross-functional environment. This is a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of advanced Senior Assistant Librarian or Associate Librarian. This individual will be responsible for the planning, vision, and oversight of access services which includes the service desk, circulation, course reserves, and the Information Delivery Services (IDS). The college is about to undertake a leading role in SUNY’s migration to a new library services platform. The Head of Access Services will play a key role in leading Milne Library’s contributions to the system-wide migration effort. The ideal candidate will demonstrate outstanding analytical, organizational, project, and time management skills, and the ability to lead multiple projects simultaneously. This individual will play a key leadership role, serving on the library’s management team and contributing significantly to the mission of the library and the institution.

Responsibilities
• Provide strategic vision, leadership, and supervision of day-to-day activities in access services
• Supervise, train, and evaluate 5 FTE staff members
• Oversee the training of new and returning service desk students, student supervisors, student research assistants, and IDS students (approximately 60 students) in collaboration with access services staff
• Participates in the evaluation and review of new work processes and tools
• Set policy regarding reserves and coordinate with other library departments to provide faculty and students access to reserve materials
• Oversee budgeting and financial operations of access services
• Oversee collaborative operations between CIT’s help desk and the library
• Provide building supervision, reporting issues to proper campus departments for appropriate resolution and/or taking the necessary independent steps
• Provide research support to students, faculty, and staff
• Participate in the library’s general instruction program for undergraduates (as schedule permits)
• Serve on the library management team

Required Qualifications

● Master’s degree in information and/or library science from an ALA-accredited school or an ALA-approved foreign equivalent
● Minimum 4 years of professional experience in an academic library
● Student supervision and/or training experience

Preferred Qualifications

● Academic reference desk experience
● Teaching experience, preferably in a liberal arts setting
● Demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate, and implement projects in a technology-rich environment
● Experience working with a budget or allocation
